Il sito si inserisce nel tipico paesaggio collinare della provincia di Livorno ed \u00e8 rappresentato da bosco deciduo invecchiato, con prevalenza di leccio. Si tratta di un bosco mediterraneo caratterizzato da condizioni climatiche particolari, con precipitazioni medie annue relativamente abbondanti. L\u2019importanza dell\u2019area \u00e8 legata anche alla scarsa rappresentativit\u00e0, anche a livello internazionale, di siti di monitoraggio forestale in ambiente termo-mediterraneo. Le attivit\u00e0 di monitoraggio iniziano del 1995 e riguardano la valutazione della condizione delle chiome, l\u2019analisi dei nutrienti fogliari e gli accrescimenti arborei. <\/p>
