Nella parte superiore del bacino, a 2700 m sorge un ghiacciaio esteso per circa 2,5 Km2.  In questo sito sono state eseguite analisi floristico-vegetazionali, microbiologiche e idro-morfologiche. Attualmente solo queste ultime sono ancora in corso. In due punti viene monitorato anche il livello idrometrico del Rio Saldura, il principale corso d\u2019acqua della Val Mazia. Sono presenti tre campionatori a bottiglia per gli isotopi delle acque e ulteriori campionamenti sono stati raccolti manualmente nel corso di vari anni ogni 30- 45 giorni. Dal 2012 al 2014 sono stati raccolti dati sulla chimica del suolo, sulla diversit\u00e0 floristica, sulla produzione primaria, sullo scambio netto dell\u2019ecosistema e sulla sua respirazione, e sul deflusso idrico del Rio Saldura. Sono disponibili anche rilievi fotogrammetrici della zona proglaciale e il bilancio di massa del ghiacciaio.     <\/p>        <p style=\"text-align:center;\">      <img decoding=\"async\"
