Le falesie sommerse ospitano flora e fauna molto ricche. Inoltre, la caratteristica delle rocce ha favorito la crescita di una ricca comunit\u00e0 corallina che raggiunge uno sviluppo raramente osservabile in altre parti del Mediterraneo. Negli anni \u201980 iniziano studi ecologici sulle principali caratteristiche chimico- fisiche dell\u2019area marina, di grande interesse sia per la biodiversit\u00e0 che per le attivit\u00e0 antropiche come turismo, pesca e attivit\u00e0 subacquee. Dal punto di vista biotico, vengono studiate le comunit\u00e0 planctoniche, bentoniche e ittiche. A partire dal 1999 gli studi assumono un carattere pi\u00f9 regolare e oggi continua il mantenimento delle serie storiche, integrate anche dai dati provenienti da nuove strutture logistiche come la
