L\u2019area \u00e8 caratterizzata da una falesia di 9 Km di lunghezza ed \u00e8 una delle poche zone costiere deglaciate del Mare di Ross. \u00c8 interessata da forti venti che influenzano la dinamica delle acque costiere. Il mosaico di ecosistemi marini presenti rende quest\u2019area un laboratorio ideale per lo studio delle caratteristiche biologiche ed ecologiche costiere antartiche. Le ricerche ecologiche sugli ecosistemi marini hanno avuto inizio nel 1987 con uno studio incentrato sulle variabili fisiche, chimiche e biotiche delle acque. Una particolare attenzione \u00e8 riposta nello studio delle dinamiche del comparto pelagico e bentonico in relazione alla copertura del ghiaccio marino. Le informazioni raccolte sono essenziali per la comprensione delle dinamiche del cambiamento climatico.     <\/p>        <p style=\"text-align:center;\">      <img decoding=\"async\"
